Sian Kingi
Sian Kingi was born in New Zealand to Barry and Lynda Kingi on December 16, 1974. Her father was of Maori descent. Sian’s friends and teachers remembered her as “gentle and charmingly shy”, a girl who liked sports and played netball on the weekend. Her height of 167 centimeters (5’5.5”) helped to make her a formidable opponent. A school friend described her as having a “beautiful, lovely nature” while a teacher at her school said that, while she could have been a smart aleck and “queen of the school”, she wasn’t. Her short, beautiful life was ended on November 27, 1987 by sadistic career criminals. Her “farewell” (funeral or life celebration) included a Maori ceremony, flowers lined up the pathway where her coffin was carried, and the playing of John Lennon’s “Imagine”.
